Wayne F. Tomlinson, age 91, of Decatur, IL., passed away on January 1, 2011.
Wayne, was born April 2, 1919, in Macon, IL., the son of the late John B. and Margaret Dunn Tomlinson. He was the seventh of their fourteen children.
He graduated from Macon High School in 1937.
Wayne married Edith Sprague on June 8, 1940.
He farmed, with his father, for several years. Later he gave up farming for the challenge of carpentry. Until 1957, Wayne worked as a self-employed carpenter in the Macon, IL. area. He, then, married Maxine Metcalf, and eventually settled on the east coast.
Until his retirement in 1983, Wayne was a building supervisor for Donohoe Construction, Washington, D.C., building hotels, embassies and other large projects, including the Georgetown Mall.
In 1986, Wayne married Nancy Curry, and they settled on a farm near Warfordsburg, PA., where he resided until the death of Nancy in 2007. In 2009, life's full circle was complete when he moved back to the Macon, IL. area.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Cooper, Peoria, IL., Ellen (Berneil) Burns, and Fran (Jack) Herbert, Macon, IL. He is also survived by his daughter, Shawn Bradley, Nob Noster, MO.; his step-sons, Michael (Pat) Curry, Sharpsburg, MD., Carl (Maggie) Curry, Gaithersburg, MD., and Donald (Jaime) Curry, Williamsport, MD. He is survived by many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Wayne's surviving brothers are Jim Tomlinson, Macon, IL., and Lloyd (Lois) Tomlinson, Orland Park, IL. His surviving sisters are Pauline Harpstrite, Decatur, IL., and Lois "Boo" (Bob) Falconer, San Diego, CA. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Letha Tomlinson, Macon, IL. and Verla Tomlinson, Shelbyville, IL.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edith; third wife, Nancy; beloved daughters, Cynthia Niemeyer and Rosa Myers; brothers, John, Edmund, Robert "Murph", and Charles Tomlinson; and sisters, Helen Young, Ann Collins, "Mae" Mary Ellen Bowman, Elizabeth Jesse, and Rita Foreman.
Dad loved to watch the crops from spring planting through fall harvest in his hometown of Macon. However, the rolling green hills of PA. is where he wanted to, eternally, rest with his soulmate, Nancy. May you rest in peace, Dad.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, MD. Rev. John Lombardi will officiate. Burial will be in the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery, near Hancock, MD.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Saturday 10 to 11 a.m.
