W. Eugene Douglas, age 82, of Heavenly Acres Ridge, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home.

Born January 22, 1929, in Fulton County Thompson Township, he was the son of the late Ora and Mattie Winters Douglas.

He attended Boardyard School.

He was co-owner of Douglas Service station in Hancock that he started, with his brother Marvin, then later with his nephews, Doug and Keith Weller. He retired in 1978.

He attended the Hancock United Methodist Church, and was a past board member and secretary of the Damascus Cemetery Association.

His joys in life were Ford automobiles, racing, farming, hunting, playing cards, and playing his guitar; but his greatest joys were his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Baker Douglas, whom he married August 22, 1956, at the Hancock United Methodist Church, Hancock, Md.; two daughters, Pamela Douglas-Grosh and husband,Tom, of Smithsburg, Md., Cinda Franklin and husband, John, of Clermont, Fl.; one son, Dean Douglas and wife, Anna, of Mercersburg, Pa.; three brothers, Marvin Douglas and Bruce Douglas, both of Hancock, Md., and Marlin Douglas, of Chambersburg Pa.; five granddaughters, Lora Douglas, Braden Grosh, Kamryn Grosh, Christina Desilets and husband, Matthew, and Amy Franklin; one niece and many nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hancock United Methodist Church. The Rev. Barbara Suffecool will officiate. Burial will be in the Damascus Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.  For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 W. Main Street, Hancock, Md., 21750 or to the Damascus Cemetery Association, c/o Lester E. Litton, 556 Maple Hollow Lane, Needmore, PA 17238
