William Leon McCarty, age 75, of Hancock, Md., passed from this life on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home.

Born Monday, August 10, 1942, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late James Wesley and Mina Elizabeth (Weller) McCarty.

He was a 1960 graduate of Hancock High School; and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He had been employed by the town of Hancock as a police officer; Fairchild Aircraft, in Hagerstown, Md., as an assembler; and later as a foreman for C. William Hetzer, Inc., also in Hagerstown.

William is survived by his ex-wife, Judy McCarty; three sons, Jeffrey, Dale and Randy McCarty, all of Hancock; a daughter, Joy Dailey, of Hancock; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., at the Orchard Ridge Church of God, 14128 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock, with Rev. Jeffrey Hawbaker officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time for the services. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
