Wilmore Rollins

Wilmore Louis (Louie) Rollins, 91, of Hancock, MD., passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.

Louie was born April 17, 1930 in Washington, D.C. to Wilmore Lou and Blanche Virginia (Derry) Rollins.

Louie graduated from Eastern High School in D.C. in 1948.  He met Dolores Dorrier on a blind date and married her on June 24, 1951.  Shortly after getting married, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1951.  He was stationed in Norfolk, VA.  They then moved to Wilmington, DE., and Louie traveled to Radio Technician School in Bainbridge, MD. for six months.  After that, they moved to Boston, MA. where he was stationed on an icebreaker.  Louie was discharged from the Navy in 1955.

He worked at Douglas Motors in Hancock, MD. and retired from Compton Truck Services in Berkeley Springs, WV. after 29 years of service.

Louie was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Hancock.  He was known as the “life of the party” and always had a funny story to share.  He loved to dance, helped with Christmas for Others, and sang in the church choirs (even though he couldn’t carry a tune).

Louie was a member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hancock, MD., and later attended Hancock United Methodist Church in Hancock.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolores Rollins; a daughter, Karen Sherwood, of Traverse City, MI; a son, Larry (Vicki) Rollins of Hancock; six grandchildren, Shawna Hendershot, Christy (Mike) Cosenza, Julie Hendershot, Heather Sherwood, Adam Rollins and Tim (Alisha) Rollins; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Noble; a step-sister, Phyllis Smith; and a step-brother, Charles F. Ison.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements were made by Grove Funeral Home.  No memorial service will be held.
